World number one Annika Sorenstam and 15-year-old star Michelle Wie struggled in the first round of the Evian Masters on Wednesday.

Sorenstam, already a winner six times this season, shot a 72 in a tie for 23rd, while Wie shot a 75 to finish in a tie for 45th.

Lynette Brooky of New Zealand, American Marisa Baena and Sweden's Carin Koch led on six under.

Wales' Becky Brewerton was tied for second two strokes back after a 68.

Briton Laura Davies was a shot further back, while Karen Stupples shot 72.

Stupples will defend her British Open title at Royal Birkdale next week.
