England's Luke Donald fired a dazzling eight-under-par 64 to win the Target World Challenge in California. Overnight leader Darren Clarke finished second, two shots back on 14 under, after closing with a level-par 72.
Padraig Harrington and Michael Campbell tied for third place, a further two shots adrift, while tournament host Tiger Woods was 14 shots off the pace.
"I played great. Fortunately the guys in the top two groups didn't play their best," said Donald.
Northern Ireland's Clarke had bogeys on 16 and 18 to hand his Ryder Cup team-mate the spoils.
"I thought if I shot seven or eight under, I might have a chance," said the 28-year-old Donald.
"Eight under was what I had in mind and it worked out. This is the kind of course you can make a string of birdies. I just played really solidly."
Donald opened with a birdie and followed with his first of three sets of back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes.
He began the back nine with back-to-back birdies and picked up further shots on 13, 14 and 16 for a run of five birdies in seven holes.
"I made a lot of putts, even left a couple on the front side," said Donald. "It could have been better."
Clarke said his finish was "obviously disappointing".
"I swung it pretty poorly all day and it was going left a bit," he said. "And then bogeying two holes out of the last three was not really the way I wanted to finish."
Woods (73) finished level with Colin Montgomerie (71) on 286, four shots ahead of last-placed Davis Love III, who closed with a 74.
