Nick Faldo has said his record of success in the United States will stand him in good stead to captain Europe at the 2008 Ryder Cup in Kentucky.
Faldo has won nine titles on the US Tour, including three Masters.
"I hope my profile and success in the United States will be an advantage to the European team," said Faldo.
"Having played under five different captains, I've picked up a few tips and hope I can draw on my own experiences to guide Europe team to victory."
Faldo missed out to Ian Woosnam for the 2006 Cup, but has been awarded the captaincy for the event at the famous Valhalla course in 2008.
"The Ryder Cup never fails to inspire both team members and spectators alike," added Faldo.
"With 11 previous appearances, I have so many fond memories of my time as a player and am honoured to be joining the list of great names that have captained the European team in the past."
Faldo, a six-time major winner, played in his first Ryder Cup at Royal Lytham in 1977.
He went on to end a prolific Ryder Cup career at Valderrama in 1997 with a record 11 appearances, the most points won (25) and most matches won (23).
