Annika Sorenstam held off US teenager Paula Creamer by a stroke on Sunday to defend her crown at the LPGA John Q Hammons Hotel Classic in Oklahoma.

The world number one made two bogeys for a final round 73 to finish 54 holes on five-under par 208.

Creamer chased the Swede to the finish but began the day five shots back and could not quite close the gap with 69.

First-round leader Maria Hjorth of Sweden fired a 75 to share third with American Diana D'Alessio on 211.

France's Karine Icher, who began the day two strokes back, struggled to a 75 to finish fifth on 212.

It was Sorenstam's third title defence in four tries this season, having retained crowns at the LPGA Championship and Safeway International, as well as coming second in a repeat bid at the Corning Classic.

It was also her 63rd career title and seventh of 2005.

She has already won 18 different LPGA events events at least twice, including John Q Hammons Hotel Classic in 2002 and 2004.
