McTernan smashes record with a 61 |  Rory McIlroy qualified with two 74s in the Irish Close Championship | Sean McTernan destroyed the course record at Westport with a sensational 12-under-par 61 in Saturday's first round of the Irish Close Championship. The Co Sligo player is seven shots clear of North West's Brian McElhinney, the current British Amateur champion. Michael Brett of Portmarnock had a 69 while Banbridge's Richard Kilpatrick and Michael McGeady from North West are among a group on two under. Holywood schoolboy Rory McIlroy and Dunmurry's Darren Crowe carded 74s.
