Vijay Singh led from start to finish to win the 84 Lumber Classic by one stroke and eclipse Tiger Woods' earnings record for a single season. The world number one fired a final-round 69 to clinch his third straight win and his fifth in six tournaments.
The 41-year-old Fijian fended off US Ryder Cup star Stewart Cink's charge of 65 to win his eighth event of 2004.
Singh's first prize in Pennsylvania took him to $9.4m (5.2m) in earnings, beating Woods' mark of $9.1m in 2000.
"Winning doesn't get old," said Singh. "I love it. I never get tired of it."
America's Woods, who relinquished the top ranking he had held for more than five years to Singh earlier this month, opted to take this week off after his Ryder Cup exertions.
In 2000, he clinched three consecutive major championships (US and British Opens, USPGA), a career Grand Slam and nine PGA Tour victories.
Cink finished on 14 under with American trio Pat Perez, Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco on 12 under.
Spain's two-time Masters champion Jose-Maria Olazabal finished in a tie for ninth after a final-round 65 took him to 10 under. Former Open champions John Daly and Ben Curtis ended on eight under and five under respectively, while England's Justin Rose handed in a 72 for four under.
Singh, who led by two overnight from another US Ryder Cup player DiMarco, started shakily at Farmington with a bogey on the third hole to slip briefly into a three-way tie for the lead with DiMarco and Jonathan Byrd.
But he picked up three shots on the way out and two more after the turn to reach four under for the round.
A dropped shot at the 14th was cancelled out by another birdie at 16 but Singh gave Cink a glimmer of hope for a play-off as he leaked a further shot at the 18th.
Cink's eight birdies, meanwhile, were marred by one bogey at the par-four 14th.
