Vijay Singh remained on course for a fifth victory in six events with a second-round 68 to lead the 84 Lumber Classic tournament in Pennsylvania. The 41-year-old Fijian moved to 12 under to head 2003 Open champion Ben Curtis (67) by two shots.
US Ryder Cup player Chris DiMarco is third at nine under after a 65 with a trio of players - Kent Jones, Joey Sindelar and JP Hayes - at seven under.
World number one Singh is chasing his eighth win of the season.
The USPGA champion began his round on the back nine and opened with two straight birdies at the par-four 10th and par-five 11th.
After a bogey at the par-three 12th, Singh added consecutive birdies at the 15th and 16th but picked up only one more shot at the par-five fifth.
"It was a different game today," Singh said. "I wasn't as sharp as yesterday.
"I missed one or two fairways, missed one or two putts. I played decent. I'll take a 68."
The 27-year-old Curtis has slipped to 136th place on the PGA Tour money list since his Open win at Royal St George's.
But his second consecutive round of 67 ensured he made his first cut since the US Open in June.
Briton Justin Rose added a 72 to his opening 69 to stay three under in a tie for 17th overall.
