1340: Haas is in good form and is well placed on the second green. The third match, featuring European rookies Paul Casey and David Howell tees off. They both find the fairway.

Darren Clarke misses a putt to halve the first hole and the locals crowding the first green have something else to cheer.
1349: Lee Westwood earns a half at the second hole in the top match while Paul Casey and David Howell pepper the pin with their approaches at the first.
1355: All four matches are in the swing of things as the bottom groupings tee off at the first.

Ian Poulter is struggling on his debut and the weight of carrying him seems to be sitting heavy on Darren Clarke's shoulders as he misses a putt for a half.

For the third time in the fourballs the Americans win the opening hole, Stewart Cink's putt proving that the European dream team of Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington are human after all. It is the first time Montgomerie has been down in a Ryder Cup match since 1999.

After a wonderful approach, Haas cards his second birdie of the day to edge the USA ahead in the top match again.
1435: The good start has fired up the crowds and the American team are feeding off that support. Love rolls in a simple putt to halve the second.

The Europeans find sand off the tee which leaves the way open for DiMarco to win the hole with a birdie.

Another cheer goes up as Woods rolls in a putt to double the USA's lead in the second match. Europe are struggling to match their blistering form from the first day.
1455: Europe are beginning to find their feet on the second day. Westwood makes a wonderful approach to the seventh and Poulter makes an important three at the sixth which will give him confidence. Woods follows his lead to halve the hole.

Garcia sinks a long putt at the seventh to win the hole and half the deficit against Haas and DiMarco.

Love, who endured a torrid first day, is playing well and doubles the home lead in the bottom match.
1508: Garcia plays a wonderful improvised shot out of a bunker off the eighth fairway. Casey and Howell continue their steady round with another par at the fifth.
1520: Garcia and Westwood are threatening to tie up the top match at the turn. Both players are inside their rivals on the ninth green. Harrington goes close with a long putt at five and Howell completes a solid par at the sixth after a improvised chip approach.
