Vijay Singh's streak of 12 consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour came to an abrupt end when he missed the cut at the Buick Invitational.

The Fijian posted a one-over 73 on the tough South course at Torrey Pines.

Singh finished on level par to miss the cut by a shot and fall short of Jack Nicklaus' PGA Tour record of 14 consecutive top 10s in 1977.

Stewart Cink grabbed a two-shot halfway lead on 11 under after a 63, while holder Tiger Woods was four under.

Singh hovered around the cut line most of the day, responding to back-to-back bogeys by holing an 18-foot eagle putt on his 15th hole, the par-five sixth.

He had birdie chances of about 15 feet on the final three holes, but missed them all.

It was the first cut Singh has missed since The Players Championship last year, when he was recovering from a rib injury.

The 40-year-old, ranked two in the world, has made it clear he is chasing Woods' world number one spot.

Cink, by contrast, was in dazzling form as he took command with a flawless nine-birdie round.

He finished ahead of fellow Americans John Daly, who fired a 66, and Steve Flesch, who had a 68.

"It was a great round," said Cink, who has not won on the Tour since the 2000 MCI Classic.

"The ball was going in the hole, and they were going in the fairway off the tee."

Britain's Luke Donald is five shots off the lead in a logjam of players, which also includes fellow Europeans Jesper Parnevik, Niclas Fasth and Sergio Garcia.

First-round leader Kevin Stadler is another shot further back after a 74 alongside Denmark's Thomas Bjorn.

Darren Clarke shot a dreadful second round 78 to miss the cut by five shots.
