| Sunday, 4 August, 2002, 20:00 GMT 21:00 UK Kim grabs Children's Championship ![]() Kim won her fifth career LPGA crown South Korea's Mi Hyun Kim overcame a double bogey on the 17th hole to edge compatriot Hee-Won Han and win the LPGA Championship for Children in Ohio on Sunday. It was the second title in three weeks and fifth career LPGA crown for Kim, who won her first LPGA event since September of 2000 just three weeks ago in Vienna, Ohio. Kim, 25, began the day with a three-stroke lead and kept it until her double bogey on the penultimate hole. But Kim avoided a playoff with a winning par at the 18th to complete a final-round one-over par 73 to finish the 54-hole event at eight-under par 208. Han was second at 207 after a final round 70. The 2001 LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year settled for her second runner-up finish of the season. Since her victory 14 months ago, Kim has recorded four runner-up finishes, including last year's Women's British Open. This year's edition of the year's final LPGA major will be contested next week at Scotland's Turnberry Golf Club. Danielle Ammaccapane played with Kim and Han in the day's final trio and carded a 72 to finish third at 208, a stroke better than Lorie Kane of Canada and fellow American Michele Redman. |
