Adlington in running for BBC gong

Britain's double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington
The sixth annual awards will be held at Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall

Swimming star Rebecca Adlington will challenge canoeist Tim Brabants and cricket's Ryan Sidebottom to be the BBC East Midlands Sports Personality 2008.

The awards will be hosted by John Inverdale in Nottingham on 27 November.

Swimmers Sam Hynd and Rob Welbourn will compete with discuss thrower Chris Martin for the disabled sports personality of the year award.

Nominated for team of the year are Beeston Hockey Club, Nottingham Rugby and GB Short Track Speed Skating team.

Junior Sportsperson - Becky Downie (gymnastics), Ellie Koyander (skiing) and Lizzie Simmonds
Junior Disabled Sportsperson - Hollie Arnold - (athletics), Jenni Cooke (swimming) and Sam Hynd (swimming)
Brian Clough Breakthrough Award - Josh Cobb (cricket), Joe Mattock (football) and Rendall Munroe (boxing)
Enterprise in Sport - Epm technology (Derbys), Sally Cowan Ltd (Derbys) and Speedo (Notts)

The Football Achievement of the Year award will be fought out by Nottingham Forest defender Julian Bennett, Chesterfield striker Jack Lester and Leicester City defender Joe Mattock.

Rebecca Adlington's coach Bill Furniss is up against Dave Brailsford, the Derbyshire-based performance director of the GB cycling team and Claire Starkey, director of coaching at the Notts gymnastic club for Coach of the Year.
