Bermudan athletes at the 2007 games opening ceremony |
Bermuda's Island Games Association general secretary John Gazzard has said it is ready to host the event in 2013. The Atlantic island is the only bidder left to host the 2013 games after Prince Edward Island pulled out following a lack of government support. Gazzard told BBC Radio Guernsey: "It's disappointing to hear that their association isn't able to see eye to eye with their government. But he added: "In terms of ourselves it's very encouraging." If Bermuda is ratified as the hosts at the IGA's congress in Aland this summer they will be the first island from outside Europe to host the games. And Gazzard seems confident that the Games would be a success. "We received the recommendation from the IGA executive earlier this year and with government backing us as well as corporate sponsors we're quite delighted." Aland will host the next games in 2009 with the Isle of Wight hosting the 2011 games.
