The last-gasp victory for Muslim Youth capped off a tremendous event

Muslim Youth Association survived a spirited fight-back and a nail-biting penalty shoot-out to win the men's competition at Your Game Liverpool, the latest round of the UK's largest ever street-football tournament.

Trailing a goal with only ten seconds to go, Liverpool Kickz looked dead and buried, but pulled off a remarkable comeback in the best traditions of Liverpool FC to take the game to a dramatic shoot-out.

But it was Muslim Youth Association who held their nerve and Abdel Kader's sudden-death penalty took them through to the Your Game national final.

Meanwhile Wirral Ladies signalled their intent as potential national champions as they swept all before them in the ladies' competition.

A brace from Sarah Eaton gave them a 2-0 final victory over Wirral Positive futures.

The Wirral Ladies will be joined in the finals by Participation FC, who won the ladies fair play award. Refugee Action picked up the men's award to join Muslim Youth Association in the men's national final.

The finals were brought to life by the commentary of Radio Five Live's Sohail Sahi, who may soon be facing competition for his job from Stanley Park Youth's John Berners, who took home the Five Live Best Commentator award.

The Five Live award for Most Valuable Player was shared by local community workers Van Gaffney and Dave Verburg, whose tireless work ensured the day was a resounding success.

They received their award from Liverpool legend Alan Kennedy, who dropped in to offer his support to a new generation of Merseyside stars.

There was plenty of other entertainment on offer with live performances from Kof, HADE and Streetwaves, as well as a graffiti masterclass from CASM and an exhibition of freestyle football skills from Mr Silky Skills.
