We're still waiting for this tournament to properly come alive but we saw quite a few fine individual performances with only four teams still to play their opening fixture. Here's my 2010 Fifa World Cup finals team of the day from Tuesday 15 June:
Goalkeeper New Zealand Paston kept New Zealand in the game to and helped the Kiwis earn a famous point. Left-back Portugal Ivory Coast got no joy whatsoever down Portugal right-hand flank. Centre-back Ivory Coast The Ivory Coast captain marshalled his defence brilliantly against the dangerous Portuguese side. Centre-back Portugal The Chelsea defender looked good throughout and was not fazed by Drogba's eventual arrival. Right-back New Zealand A defender who affected the game. He headed the crucial last-gasp equaliser for New Zealand. Midfielder Ivory Coast A fine display by the Barcelona midfield man who saw Deco off with ease. Midfielder North Korea His well-taken goal gave North Korea a glimmer of hope and gave Brazil a bit of a shock. Midfielder Slovakia A true livewire just behind the forward line, what a great performance. Midfielder Brazil Made a hard chance look easy to break North Korea's stubborn resistance. Striker North Korea Ten out of 10 for effort, never stopped working hard throughout the match. Striker Slovakia Great display and excellent goal. He deserved better defending from his team-mates in the final.
