Day three saw the World Cup come to life as Germany produced a stunning performance to dismantle the Australians at the magnificent Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban and Ghana became the first African team to win at the finals.

Here's my Fifa 2010 World Cup finals team of the day from Sunday:

RICHARD KINGSON (goalkeeper) Ghana

The Wigan goalkeeper produced two superb saves which helped Ghana to a famous victory - and the shock of the day.

HANS SERPEI (left-back) Ghana

The Bayer Leverkusen full-back had Milos Krasic in his pocket.

JOHN MENSAH (centre-back) Ghana

The Ghana captain was commanding. The defender, who spent last season at Sunderland, handled 6ft 8in Nikola Zigic brilliantly.

PER MERTESACKER (centre-back) Germany

The Werder Bremen central defender was as solid as a rock.

PHILIPP LAHM (right-back) Germany

Who needs Michael Ballack when Lahm's team demolished the Aussies?

MESUT OZIL (midfield) Germany

Very impressive. The 21-year-old just ran the show.

ANTHONY ANNAN (midfield) Ghana

The silent force. Watch this kid. A pocket dynamo and the new Dennis Wise!

THOMAS MUELLER (midfield) Germany

The Bayern Munich midfield maestro just kept coming.

LUKAS PODOLSKI (midfield) Germany

Excellent. Poland must be rueing the one that got away?

MIROSLAV KLOSE (striker) Germany

Led the line well and very brave for the goal.

ASAMOAH GYAN (striker) Ghana

Worked tirelessly up front and was cool under pressure. The Stade Rennais forward also converted the crucial penalty when it mattered.
