Podolski staked his claim for a start at the World Cup
Oliver Neuville, Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose each scored twice as World Cup hosts Germany thrashed Luxembourg in a warm-up match.

Klose hit a close-range opener before Torsten Frings scored a penalty after Bastian Schweinsteiger was fouled.

Podolski made it 3-0 with a fierce shot and Klose grabbed his side's fourth midway through the second half.

Podolski scored a penalty after Gerald Asamoah was fouled and Neuville pounced twice more late in the game.

Luxembourg had come close to grabbing a shock equaliser in the fifth minute but Alphonse Leweck scuffed his shot wide of Jens Lehmann's goal.

Jurgen Klinsmann's Germany face Japan on 30 May and Colombia on 2 June before the hosts' opening World Cup match - against Costa Rica in Munich on 9 June.

Germany also face Poland and Ecuador in Group A.
