Angola coach Luis Oliviera Goncalves said his players had made him proud despite bowing out of the World Cup following their 1-1 draw to Iran. The African nation had been leading the match through Amado Flavio before Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh equalised.
And Goncalves said: "We were not intelligent enough to defend our 1-0 lead but I'm still proud of my players.
"Everyone involved in Angolan football and the people at home can be very proud of the players."
Angola had very real hopes of becoming the first African nation to reach the knock-out stages at this World Cup after taking the lead.
But despite their tournament exit, Goncalves said his players had already exceeded many people's expectations.
"People were saying we would let in a lot of goals but that didn't happen," he added.
"Today's match was a little bit of bad football but in the end I think a draw was a fair result."
