Goncalves's side face Iran on Wednesday |
Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves insists his team would target a place in the last 16 of the World Cup. This was after their 0-0 draw with Mexico on Friday.
Their backs-to-the-wall defensive effort saw them keep the Mexicans at bay, to ensure they still have a chance of reaching the knockout stages from Group D.
The result was greeted with delight in Angola where the streets of the capital Luanda were filled with revellers.
"I am very pleased with this result," Goncalves said.
"Now we must wait and see what happens. It will be very difficult for us but we must remember nothing is decided at this point.
"The game with Iran is very important and we must win this time.
"We had an objective when we came to the World Cup to unite the country and also our continent and this result is a step in that direction."
