Goncalves insisted his side deserved a draw against Mexico |
Coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves hailed his side's goalless draw against Mexico, claiming it announced Angola's arrival on football's big stage. Keeper Joao Ricardo was named man of the match for the African side after a string of impressive saves kept Mexico at bay in Hanover.
But Goncalves insisted his side were good value for a point.
"We controlled the game," he said. "The draw is a signal that we have arrived and are building a very good team."
However, he also took time to pay tribute to Mexico, who will progress to the second round from Group D with a draw against Portugal in Gelsenkirchen on 21 June.
He said: "It was a good performance by us, especially as it came against a very strong Mexican team."
