WSL a vision made real - Lincoln Ladies boss Rod Wilson

Rod Wilson
Wilson has been Lincoln Ladies' manager since November 2004

Lincoln Ladies manager Rod Wilson says their place in the new eight-team FA Women's Super League is the realisation of a long-held ambition by the club.

The Ladyimps play their first WSL game against Doncaster Rovers Belles at Sincil Bank on Wednesday.

Wilson told BBC Lincolnshire: "Everyone thought we were these mad, crazy people who were obsessed with women's football but we always had this vision.

"It proves that if you have a vision in life and go for it you can achieve it."

Wilson, who has been team manager since November 2004, added: "We always felt that we could put a business plan together and, if we had the right environment, we could run a near-professional side.

"The standard will be top drawer, and similar to comparing women's tennis to men's tennis - not as fast or powerful as the men's game but technically excellent."
