Lincoln Ladies lost 3-1 to Chelsea in the quarter-final of the FA Women's Cup on Sunday despite taking a fourth-minute lead through Jodie Michalska.
Lincoln were denied a penalty when Amanda Barr was brought down, before Eni Aluko equalised in the 45th minute.
Dunia Susi put Chelsea ahead but was sent off for hitting Kerry Smith, with Aluko netting her second on 65 minutes.
Lady Imps manager Rod Wilson said: "I'm proud of the way we played, we were the better team of the first half."
Wilson added: "Had we taken a couple more chances and been awarded a penalty which would have seen us go 2-0 up, that would have put a completely different complexion on the match.
"This goes to show that we can compete on equal terms with one of the best teams in the National Division, which shows how far we have come as a squad."
