Sunderland missed the chance to go clear at the top of the Womens' Premier League after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Curzon Ashton on Sunday.
The Black Cats bounced back from 2-0 down in a four-goal first-half and manager Mick Mulhern was left disappointed by his side's poor start.
"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb but credit must be given for the way we fought back," he said.
"But it's the old cliche, if you don't take your chances you don't win games."
