Lady Imps battle to cup victory

Injury-hit Lincoln Ladies needed extra time to beat Sunderland 3-1 in the first round of the FA Women's Premier League Cup on Sunday.

Teenager Sophie Wallis gave the Lady Imps an early lead, only for Sarah Danby to equalise in the 52nd minute.

Jodie Michalska and Amanda Barr struck in extra-time to clinch the win, with some players reduced to walking pace.

Assistant Sam Willett said: "It proved we have players who can rise to the occasion, even in an injury crisis."

The Lady Imps saw Wallis, Mel Cook and Carla Ward all pick up injuries in the match, with long-term absentees Nic Stray and Stacey Aisthorpe returning to action from the substitutes' bench.
