Bird on target in Blues success
By Tony Leighton

England Under-21 winger Danni Bird struck twice as Birmingham beat Colchester 5-0 to end the non-League club's FA Cup dream.

The South East Combination side had previously beaten Blues' neighbours Aston Villa.

But they found their top-flight visitors too hard to handle in a one-sided fifth-round tie.

Two goals from Katie Anderton helped Blackburn Rovers beat Chelsea 3-2 in the only all-National Division tie.

In the battle of the regional division promotion chasers, the Northerners came out on top against the Southerners, Liverpool beating Watford 3-0.

The rest of the scheduled fifth-round ties were postponed due to international call-ups for players on England duty at the China Cup.

But the much delayed fourth round Bristol derby finally went ahead, with Academy coming from behind to beat City 3-1 after extra time.

In China, meanwhile, England bounced back from Friday's 2-0 defeat by the host nation to collect an impressive 1-1 draw with the USA, the world's second ranked team.

FA WOMEN'S CUP FIFTH ROUND

Colchester United 0-5 Birmingham City

Four goals in the opening 26 minutes set the Blues up for a comfortable passage into the quarter-finals.

Bird, Amy McCann, Laura Bassett and Heather Scheuber were all on target as the visitors took charge, Bird then completed the scoring 17 minutes after the break.

Blackburn Rovers 3-2 Chelsea

Blackburn made it hard for themselves, twice handing Chelsea the lead through own goals before finally snatching victory.

Andi Bell, with a penalty, and Anderton hit equalisers after first, Jane Eadie, and then Natalie Brewer had put the ball into their own net.

Anderton clinched a quarter-final place with her 16th goal of the season 20 minutes from time.

Liverpool 3-0 Watford

Tammy Byrne volleyed Liverpool ahead after only 20 seconds, but Watford were still in the game until three minutes from time.

Chantelle Parry hit the killer goal then, for good measure, Shelley James made it 3-0 in stoppage time.

FA WOMEN'S CUP FOURTH ROUND

Bristol Academy 3-1 Bristol City AET

Holly Miles went from hero to zero as she gave City a 50th minute lead but then gave away the 71st minute penalty from which Corinne Yorsten equalised.

Kerry Bartlett edged the top-flight team ahead seven minutes into extra time and a 112th minute Michelle Green goal finished off the Southern Division side.

Having seen off their local rivals in a tie that was finally played after being postponed four times, Academy will entertain Tranmere Rovers in the fifth round.
