| Bowyer admits to stamping
Bowyer was caught on television lashing out at the Spaniard and now faces a Uefa ban. And Leeds boss Terry Venables insists Bowyer will have to accept his punishment when it is dealt out. Venables initially stated that he felt Gerardo had play-acted. But he said on Friday: "I've seen the incident again and I've spoken to Lee. "He said to me that he'd put his foot on his head, and if he does that then he's got to be big enough to take the responsibility. "He's admitted himself that he's got to take whatever comes at him, and I agree with that." Condemned Bowyer kicked the back of Gerardo's legs and then stamped on the defender's face. The England star was fortunate to only receive a yellow card for the foul, and escaped punishment for the stamping. But Uefa has confirmed that it will look at video footage of the incident to decide whether to take any further action. Former Leeds player Peter Lorimer condemned the challenge. He told BBC Radio Five Live: "Stamping is very dangerous and we must rid the game of it.
"Lee took the law into his own hands and cannot do this. "You can defend most things but you can't defend that. It was calculated. "They have to stop things like that with kids watching who play on Sundays. "I am a fan of Bowyer's but that is not good enough." |
