York captain Chris Smith says that the Minstermen can reach the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs this season.

City currently lie 10th in the table, seven points off the play-off spots but with at least one game in hand on most of the sides above them.

Smith told BBC Radio York: "We believe we can beat anyone in this league.

"That's the good thing about this team it's not a cockiness but it's an arrogance that you need to have. We all believe we can get in the play-offs."

City have won five of their last seven league games, with their two defeats coming in the shape of a 4-0 loss at Southport and a 5-0 reverse at Luton.

Smith said: "The Luton game and Southport games, I'm not making excuses but in both we've gone down to 10 men.

"We've bounced back straight away and even when we were sitting 14th we knew we could get a run together and hit the play-offs.

"That's our aim. We're still a long way away, there's still 18 games left so there's still a lot to play for."
