Right time to leave Lincoln City - Scott Kerr

Former Lincoln City midfielder Scott Kerr says his deadline-day move to York City came at the right time.

Yorkshire-based Kerr, 29, had been the Imps' longest-serving player, making 249 appearances since joining in 2005.

But manager Steve Tilson allowed him to leave Sincil Bank after interest from the Blue Square Bet Premier side.

Kerr told BBC Lincolnshire: "I was fed up with travelling and maybe didn't see eye to eye with the gaffer on a few little things so the time was right."

He added: "He [Tilson] told me 'You're in the team and playing well, but if you want to talk to York and if they can offer you a good deal for a couple of years then I won't stand in your way'."

Kerr, who was signed from Scarborough by then-Lincoln manager Keith Alexander, said his only regret was not reaching 250 appearances for the Imps.

"The majority of the fans have been great to me over the last six years and I feel I've given a lot back every time I pulled on a Lincoln shirt," he said.

"It would have been nice to have reached 250 appearances but I had to make a decision.

"That would have been a great honour, but 249 games is still a massive achievement and one I couldn't have imagined when I joined six seasons ago."

Tilson added: "It was a difficult decision for me as we'd won three on the bounce with Scott in the team, but it was a great opportunity for him to play for what's almost his local side.

"I think he felt it was a good move for him so I didn't feel it was right to stop that."
