York City midfielder Mark Greaves hopes their FA Trophy final appearance will help the club to improve next season.

The 34-year-old, who is in talks about his future with boss Martin Foyle, told BBC Radio York the financial rewards from their run should help the club.

He said: "It will give the club a financial platform for next season. I think everybody is aware of that.

"Hopefully, we have probably earned enough for the side to make a challenge next season."

Greaves added: "It has been a difficult season. I've been around long enough now to know we've not been good enough this year.

"I'm not hiding away from that fact. I don't think any of the players are.

"I'll look back, whether I leave or stay or whatever, and hopefully York will be challenging. I'll certainly be looking at the league next year to see if they do that."
