York City winger Adam Smith is ready to make an impact in his second spell with the club.

Smith, 23, spent a month on loan from Gainsborough in December and impressed manager Martin Foyle.

After lengthy discussions between the clubs a deal was done to sign Smith until the end of next season.

He told BBC Radio York: "It was dragging on and I didn't think it was going to happen. But fortunately it did and I'm very pleased."

Smith said he was glad to be back in full-time football after a short spell with Blue Square North side Gainsborough.

"When I left Chesterfield and went part-time it didn't suit me and it never was an ambition of mine to stay part-time.

"I always wanted to get back in to full-time and have a good go of it and see where I could take my career."

Smith made his second debut for York from the bench in the draw at Altrincham.

He added: "It was nice to get on and get a run. I need a bit of fitness. I'll have to do a bit of extra work after training in the next few days because I've not played since the last game at Burton on New Year's Day.

"So, I'm a bit rusty but hopefully I can get back to fitness and it won't take too long."

Smith also said he is confident that York can turn around what has turned in to a poor season.

"We've got to be confident. We've got the right management and we've got good players," he said.

"I'm confident and the lads are confident we can turn it round. We'll give it a go.

"We're playing some good stuff and training's always good and we can get back and climb the table I'm sure."
