Walker delights York's home fans

York City

York City manager Colin Walker was happy to please the club's fans with a 4-1 win over Farsley Celtic on Tuesday.

The result relegated Farsley and helped compensate for a second season of poor home displays from the Minstermen.

Walker told BBC Radio York: "We asked the players to send the crowd home with something to remember and hope that we can produce that and more next season."

Woolford and Fortune-West put York 2-0 ahead before Farsley pulled one back but a late Brodie brace made it 4-1.

York were two up after 20 minutes and dominated most of the first half.

"I asked for them to be a bit more positive in the final third," said Walker.

"We had our obligatory 20 minutes where no-one's sure what's going on."

This does give us something to bounce from for next year

The final part of the game featured a dramatic cameo from sub Richard Brodie but only after he had missed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance.

"The crowd were having a real go at him for not scoring but he was there not long after and stuck it away, and I thought the fourth goal was absolute quality," added Walker.

Since taking over as manager in late November Walker has won 11, drawn eight and lost seven in the league.

"We've won more than we've lost, and it might be a case of "if only", but this does give us something to bounce from for next year," he concluded.
