Walker happy with young players

York City

York City boss Colin Walker was "dead chuffed" for his young side after they lost 1-0 to Oxford United on Tuesday.

Andy McWilliams and Jimmy Beadle made their debuts and teenage goalkeeper Josh Mimms stood in for Tom Evans.

Eddie Anaclet scored the only goal for Oxford on 48 minutes but Martyn Woolford and Manny Panther were unlucky not to score for York.

Walker told BBC Radio York: "We deserved at least a point, I thought over the game we were the better side."

He added: "I think we must have had 75% of the possession. We just weren't clinical enough in the final third.

"Woolford was a threat all game, I thought the three front lads worked their trolley off and did what we asked them to do. I'm a little bit gutted for the players that we haven't got anything out of the game".

I'm already planning for next year

On the younger players Walker said: "Jimmy Beadle did an absolutely sterling job in midfield.

"Andy McWilliams has acquitted himself absolutely fantastically, Liam Shepherd looked very confident when he came on, and that can only bode well for the future."

Teenage keeper Josh Mimms, son of former Everton, Spurs and Blackburn keeper Bobby Mimms, handled the ball well throughout.

"It was good to play at home, my first game at home, and I was happy with how I did," he said.

Walker now has several teenagers challenging for a first-team place at Torquay on merit.

"I'm already planning for next year and part of the plans are what you see on the pitch."
