Former Yeovil Town midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala could be on the verge of earning himself another contract at Huish Park.
"He'll come in and train with us and if I like what I see we might do something short-term," player-manager Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset.
"If he sets the world alight we might do something longer term."
The DR Congo international, 27, previously played for the club in the 2006/7 season when he was a regular fixture, making 38 appearances.
He is now a free agent after being released by Oldham Athletic, who he joined from Yeovil in 2007.
"JP brings something a little different to the table," said Skiverton. "He's more of a sitting/holding midfielder but can get about the pitch and put a foot in.
"That maybe is something I'm looking for in the coming months especially when we go away to some tough places such as Leeds and Huddersfield."
