Wycombe chief executive officer Mark Ashton is resigning after less than four months to look for a career outside football.

The former Watford chief executive joined the Wanderers in February, having left Vicarage Road in December.

He is also stepping down from his position on the board of Wycombe's rugby union tenants London Wasps.

Ashton wants to spend time with his family during the summer before deciding his next move.

Ashton told the club website: "I have been in football for the majority of my life and feel that it's now time to do something different.

"I have had a number of highs and lows in football and regard my short time at Wycombe as some of the most enjoyable. I have a new baby daughter and intend to spend the summer at home with my family before deciding on my next career move.

"The time I have spent at Wycombe has been great and I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to Steve Hayes, the board, Peter Taylor and the staff for making me feel so welcome. I genuinely wish the club the very best of luck moving forward and I am sure that their future is extremely bright."

Wycombe managing director and Wasps owner Steve Hayes said: "Mark came to see me last week to discuss the fact that he felt that he needed a break from football and wanted to pursue a career outside of the game.

"Whilst I am disappointed that Mark will be leaving us, I respect his decision and wish him well for the future."
