Kearney will team up with his new team for pre-season training
Wrexham have signed Halifax Town midfielder Tom Kearney.
The former Everton trainee has signed on a two-year contract and joins the club for pre-season training on Friday.
The club had apparently been tracking the 27-year-old Kearney for some time, but the deal was held up by financial problems at the Shay Stadium.
The Liverpudlian had been at the club for two seasons having previously played for Bradford and still had a year left on his contract.
Kearney played a major part in Halifax overcoming their problems last season which included a 10-point deduction because of its crippling debts.
At the end of the season the Yorkshire club were demoted two divisions from the Blue Square Premier as the financial problems persisted and have applied to join the Unibond League.
The Shayman's financial situation deteriorated to such an extent that last week they put all of their remaining contracted players up for sale.
A statement issued by Wrexham said: "We certainly didn't want to be seen to be cherry-picking Halifax's best players when they still had an opportunity of remaining in the Football Conference.
"But following their demotion to the Unibond League for financial reasons, it was clear they would be unable to continue with their present staffing levels."
The club added that dealings between the two clubs had been "very amicable".
