Ferguson has built the heat ahead of the clubs' FA Cup clash

The son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told BBC's Sport Wales show he was disappointed Wrexham did not consider him as manager in January.

"If I was there, I don't think they would be in the position they are in," said Peterborough manager Ferguson.

"It's not being disrespectful to Brian, it's just my belief."

Ferguson, 35, was a long-serving Wrexham midfielder, but he was not considered as manager when Denis Smith was dismissed at the beginning of the year and chose to leave to manage rival League Two side Peterborough.

The two sides now face each other in the first round of the FA Cup at Peterborough on Saturday.

"I was delighted with the Peterborough job but I felt they [Wrexham] could have spoken to me about it [the Wrexham job]," said Ferguson.

"They were quite glad to get me out of the door. They didn't even speak to me and say 'Look, this is why we are doing what we are doing'.

"I felt I was owed that. I'd played there for eight years. I was 35 and an experienced professional."

The Posh are currently third in League Two with Wrexham languishing near the bottom of the table, but Ferguson says that will make them dangerous in the Cup.

"They've got nothing to lose," said Ferguson.

"No one's expecting them to come here and win, but we will be ready for them. I've just got to get the players right.

"We've got a good record at home and if we can perform like I know we can, I'm sure we will give them a hard game."
