Hahnemann is keen to displace Wayne Hennessey in the first team.
Wolves goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann says he made his summer move from Reading in the knowledge that he would be the deputy to Wayne Hennessey.
The American international, 37, made his club debut in Tuesday's Carling Cup victory over Swindon at Molineux.
"When I talked to Mick McCarthy at the beginning, before signing anything he made it clear," Hahnemann told BBC WM.
"Wayne played basically all the games last year, he's a really good young keeper, I'm under no illusions."
Hahnemann's first appearance ended with the drama of a penalty shoot out which Wolves won, even though the keeper did not manage to make a single save - Swindon skipper Gordon Greer seeing his spot-kick strike the post.
And now the former Reading player is eager to put pressure on Welsh international Hennessey for his place in Mick McCarthy's Premier League plans.
I told Wayne when I came here that I wanted to play

"I told Wayne when I came here that I wanted to play, as do Carl Ikeme and Matt Murray who is starting to train now," Hahnemann noted.
"We've got four really good goalies here and you need that. We're gonna be under pressure and with injuries we need to be ready."
