McCarthy eyeing up more new faces

Wolves target James Harper
Reading midfielder James Harper has held talks with Wolves

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy says he remains open-minded to the possibility of adding to his squad, with the Premier League season just a week away.

The former Republic of Ireland manager says he will not complete his business much before the transfer deadline.

"I'm delighted with the lads I've got, but I just keep looking," McCarthy told BBC WM. "The window's open until the end of August.

"We've done a fair bit of business, and we'd like to have had it concluded."

Wolves have been linked with a move for Reading midfielder James Harper, although McCarthy suggested that is now unlikely to come to fruition.

"No, there's nothing," he admitted. "I spoke to Reading and it's not gone any further."

Saturday's final pre-season friendly at home to Real Valladolid may give former Celtic defender Bobo Balde a final chance to impress after a lengthy trial spell at Molineux.

"Bobo's done okay, he's here for another week or so, then we'll make a decision," McCarthy said.

"I'll make a decision and he'll make a decision as well, I suppose," he added.
