Carl Ikeme is now in the first team at Molineux on merit
Carl Ikeme is determined to make the most of his chance to become first-choice keeper at Wolves.
After keeping his place ahead of Wayne Hennessey for Saturday's 2-1 win over Coventry, Ikeme told BBC WM that his promotion was a little unexpected.
"It was a bit of a shock to be honest when the chance came to me. But I'm going to try to stay in the side."
Ikeme, first preferred to Hennessey at Swansea, was man of the match as Wolves went back top of the Championship.
And, with Matt Murray working his way back into first-team contention after his latest long injury absence, Ikeme knows he faces a fight to hang onto the number one spot.
"I wouldn't say anyone's above anyone else at the moment," he said. "All three of us are battling for one shirt but the gaffer's always been very good to me.
"Even when I wasn't in the team he was very supportive."
