Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has told Paul Jewell he has a job for life - but he will not stand in his manager's way if he gets an offer from a bigger club. Jewell, 42, recently signed a new four-year contract with the Latics and Whelan told the News of the World: "Paul is here for as long as he wants.
"But if a big club came in for him and it was what he wanted then I'd shake his hand and wish him all the best.
"He is too good a man to hold back and our partnership is too good for that."
Jewell has been in charge at the JJB Stadium since June 2001 and has taken Wigan from League One to the Premiership.
The former Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday boss led the Latics to 10th place in their first season in the top flight last term and Wigan also reached the final of the Carling Cup.
"Paul has committed himself to the club until 2010 and we are absolutely delighted with that - as far as we are concerned he is simply the best," added Whelan.
"He is an absolute pleasure to work with - but I have this fear that another club will come in for him."
