Ian Ridley returned as Terras chairman after a four-and-a-half-year absence
Weymouth chairman Ian Ridley has backed new boss Bobby Gould to secure the Terras' Blue Square Premier future.
Gould was appointed following the dismissal of Alan Lewer, who was relieved of his duties after the club suffered 11 straight defeats.
Ridley told BBC Radio Solent: "What we need is a leader of men, someone who can galvanise the football club and Bobby will do that.
"We had to make a change to alter the air of resignation around the place."
Weymouth went into Easter Monday's home game with Forest Green in the relegation zone and Ridley said the change of manager was vital.
"We felt we had to get something out of the game against Lewes on Saturday and if we were to stay in this league it was a game we needed to get something from," he said.
"We talked as a board on Saturday evening and decided we needed to make a change and I informed Alan of that.
"We wanted someone experienced, someone passionate and someone who could give the place a buzz and Bobby Gould fits that criteria."
