Kenny will be going for gold in the 3km pursuit
Great Britain cyclist Darren Kenny will go for the 3km individual pursuit gold at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester on Thursday.
Kenny qualified fastest in three minutes 44.416 seconds and will face Japan's Masashi Ishii in the final, with Rik Waddon going for bronze.
But GB fared less well on the first day of the basketball event, with the men beaten 63-41 by the US.
And the women's team lost 41-37 to Mexico and 48-46 to China.
Helen Freeman, competing in her fourth World Cup, said, "It was a great match although the result was disappointing.
"However it's a great experience to take forward to the future matches."
Thursday's basketball sees Team GB's men take on Paralympic champs Australia and Germany, while the women's team face the Netherlands.
GB's men beat the USA for bronze in Beijing but a side missing three leading players struggled to match that feat.
Head coach Murray Treseder said: "This was not the match we hoped to open our World Cup with, but the guys on the team will gain a lot from this experience.
"We are looking ahead with London 2012 a long way to go but we will continue to prepare."
Meanwhile, the action will pick up pace in the Manchester velodrome on Thursday and Kenny said: "I'm pretty pleased with the time but it is qualifying so I wanted to do enough to be in with a chance for gold, now have to see how we do on Thursday.
"I've competed here at the World Cup every year since it began, it's a good stepping stone event, I like to set out the year and plan.
"It's great to have this type of international competition at home and it's at a good time in the year so we can go from coming out of the winter training and have a main target for the first half of the year."
Kenny, who won four gold medals and a silver medal in Beijing, will also take on Simon Richardson and Waddon in the LC3/CP3 1km time trial.
Jody Cundy, who won two golds in Beijing, will compete in the LC1/LC2 1km time trial event alongside fellow double Paralympic champion Mark Bristow.
And former swimmer Sarah Storey will take on her rivals in the 500m time trial.
