Youssouf Mulumbu has signed a contract extension at West Brom until 2014.

The DR Congo midfielder, 23, initially joined the Baggies on loan from Paris St Germain in January 2008.

He was signed on a permanent deal for £175,000 in summer 2009 and extended it by a year last July after West Brom's promotion from the Championship.

Mulumbu's latest extension is reward for his good form as West Brom continue to defy the odds by occupying a mid-table place in the Premier League.

"I'm delighted that Youssouf has signed his new contract, which is fully deserved," manager Roberto Di Matteo told the club's website.

"He's had a very good season so far and is a player who wants to learn."

Mulumbu has made 19 appearances for West Brom this season, scoring three goals.

"He's a big favourite with the fans and I think that is down to the fact they recognise he has a specific role here," added Di Matteo.

"He does a little bit of the dirty work for the team and is a player who gives us balance.

"He also chips in with some goals, which aren't expected but are a bonus. We all look forward to carrying on working with Youssouf for years to come."
