West Bromwich Albion have released Portuguese winger Filipe Teixeira.

The Premier League club have decided not to take up an option to extend the 29-year-old's deal for another year.

He joined the Baggies from Portuguese side Academica de Coimbra for £600,000 in July 2007 but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in March 2008.

He had been struggling to reclaim a place in the West Brom team and went on loan to Barnsley for the last three months of the 2009-10 campaign.

Teixeira made 62 appearances for West Brom, scoring five goals and played in 14 games for the Tykes after joining them in February.

In his absence, the Baggies were promoted to the top flight in April after one season in the Championship.

"Filipe is a good pro and gave everything for Albion," West Brom's sporting director Dan Ashworth told the club website.

"He had a fantastic first season with the club in the Championship until he got injured. After that it was difficult for him to get a run in the team."
