Filipe Teixeira could be out for nine months (Getty Images) |
West Bromwich Albion's Portuguese midfielder Filipe Teixeira has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The 27-year-old may be sidelined for up to nine months due to cruciate ligament damage to his left knee.
Teixeira suffered the injury during the Baggies' 3-0 win over Plymouth and boss Tony Mowbray has been left frustrated.
"This is a huge disappointment for Filipe and for us because he's been a big, big player. The supporters have taken to him," he admitted to BBC WM.
Teixeira has returned to Portugal for a second medical opinion, but all the indications are that he'll need reconstructive surgery.

Mowbray added: "He has contributed immensely and will be a loss.
"But the rest of us have got to push on regardless and hopefully by the time Filipe's ready to pull his boots back on and play we'll be a Premier League side.
"That's got to be the target for ourselves and for Filipe also."
