Dorrans scored his first two Albion goals in this season's Carling Cup
West Brom midfielder Graham Dorrans believes he will need to work hard to add to the first Scottish cap he received in Japan last weekend.
Dorrans, 22, was rewarded for a strong start to the season with a place in George Burley's team that lost 2-0.
"It was a great trip and it's great to be involved with your country," Dorrans told BBC WM.
"It was a long way to go, but I thought we did okay out there. It was a great experience for me, a learning curve."
The former Livingston player had to wait until Roberto di Matteo arrived as the new head coach at the Hawthorns before establishing himself as a first team regular.
His performances alongside young DR Congo midfielder Youssuf Mulumbu appear to have caught Burley's eye.
"It took me a little while to get in when I came down, but I knew that was always going to be the case," Dorrans added.
"Hopefully I can keep on learning, I've still got a long, long way to go. The Scotland career? If it comes it's great."
Di Matteo has made the most of the Scot's versatility, using him out wide, through the middle, and even in support of lone striker Roman Bednar in the Baggies' last game at Preston - a role Dorrans relished.
"I got a lot of chances - it was a bit disappointing in the end that I never took one.
"I've played there with Scotland as well, but you get a lot of space in behind Roman."
