Olsson (right) has top-flight experience in the Dutch first division
West Brom have completed the 800,000 signing of Swedish central defender Jonas Olsson from top-flight Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.
The 25-year-old has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a further year, after passing a medical.
"He's got different assets to our other centre-halves," said West Brom boss Tony Mowbray of the 6ft 4ins defender.
"He's a big, tall, left-sided defender who will bring physical attributes to our team due to his sheer size."
The fee for the former Under-21 international could rise by 360,000 in performance-related add-ons.
Mowbray added: "He's been brought in to increase competition at centre-half and I'm looking forward to working with him and helping to develop his career in the Premier League."
Olsson, who is Mowbray's 10th signing of the summer, has been a first-team regular for the past three years, helping Nijmegen to finish eighth last season.
He moved to the Netherlands from home-town club Landskrona in 2005.
