Albrechtsen has played more than 100 games for West Brom
Derby County have completed the signing of out-of-contract West Brom defender Martin Albrechtsen.
The 28-year-old Denmark international has signed a two-year deal and becomes the club's eighth summer signing.
Rams boss Paul Jewell said Albrechtsen's signing was a massive boost.
"He can play at right-back and at left-back, he has good pace and he will give us even more competition for the centre-half position," Jewell said.
"Martin is a player who had a lot of options with some very good clubs," Jewell told the club's website.
"He has chosen to join us and that speaks volumes about the pull and ambition of Derby.
"He is the kind of signing who makes a statement of intent and shows that we mean business."
Albrechtsen told BBC Radio Derby that former Rams midfielder Morten Bisgaard helped him decide on a move to Pride Park: "I talked to Morten who played here a few years ago and he said it was a really good club.
"I heard good things about Derby and I am really looking forward to it."
Albrechtsen made 138 senior appearances in four seasons at The Hawthorns.
Baggies boss Tony Mowbray added: "The era of Bosman means the incentives offered by clubs to out-of-contract players are often decisive in whether a player stays or leaves.
"We will continue to push forward in our bid to find new faces to strengthen the squad."
