Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough could be set to expand his small squad with up to four new signings.
Four new faces, including ex-Derby striker Lee Morris, played in the 2-0 friendly defeat against Derby County at the Pirelli Stadium on Wednesday.
Clough told BBC Radio Derby: "None of them looked out of place."
Midfielders Jonty Richter and Matt Bailey, 19, and forward Dave McDermott, 20, all played as did Morris, who was injured for most of last term.
And the Brewers look likely to sign Morris, who played for 15 minutes against his former club.
"Each time he plays he looks a little bit fitter and a little bit sharper," said Clough. "It's a question of getting through with his knee and proving it's okay."
Richter, an Australian, last played for Tamworth in the Blue Square Conference North but Clough has suggested he may be able to make the step up.
Clough is also hopeful about Bailey, who available on loan from Wolves after he spent some time with Kidderminster last year.
