| Tuesday, 14 May, 2002, 17:43 GMT 18:43 UK Watford tighten belts ![]() Watford have had a disappointing season Watford will not sign any new players until the ITV Digital crisis reaches some resolution. And the club's chief executive Tim Shaw also wants to see some of Watford's transfer-listed players move on before he sanctions any new signings by manager Gianluca Vialli. Until the likes of Espen Baardsen, Marcus Gayle, Pierre Issa, Ramon Vega and Allan Nielsen are sold, Vialli's plans to sign Paul Okon from Middlesbrough and Danny Webber from Manchester United will be shelved. "We will wait as long as we have to wait," Shaw told the club's website. "While there is uncertainty to the degree there is over the TV deal, there is no way we are buyers in the transfer market. "We also have a number of players on the transfer list and I think it would be fair to say we need to see some movement on that score before we bring anyone in. "The reality is that, if the worst came to the worst and no-one came in or left during the sumer, we'd still have a pretty strong squad with which to start next season." Watford's wage bill has reportedly risen by 4m since Vialli took over from Graham Taylor last June. |
