Byfield played for Walsall from 2000 to 2002 and again from 2009

Walsall captain Darren Byfield has been ruled out for a further four to six weeks with a knee injury.

The 34-year-old striker has not played since 18 September and was thought to be nearing a return.

But boss Chris Hutchings told the club website: "It's a grade two injury rather than grade one.

"It's extremely disappointing. We thought we had got to the nitty-gritty of it but the original scan didn't show up how badly he had done it at first."
